Keep Truckin’ . . . . .
hopefully you have the Grateful Dead song playing in the back of you mind as the sound track for this entry . . .
That is were we are right now . . .just trucking along. School is in full swing and I seem to have found a good rhythm in my classes and balancing time at home. I have three days that I teach full time. Two days to do shopping and house stuff, meet with other women, have church planting meetings, and spending time with my husband. Life is busy for me and just as busy for the kids and Christian. We are trying to figure out a way to relieve many of his duties as base manager. It was WAY more work and more time consuming that we thought.
Christian had the blood clot in his leg drained today. After crashing in Oxapampa he ended up with a huge blood clot in the side of his shin about the size of a tangerine. We have patiently been waiting for it to go away. It hasn’t been too painful and Christian was able to go riding with the kids on Sunday and his leg fit in the boot without a problem. A doctor form the States is working in Pucallpa this week and Christian asked if it would be quicker to have it drained – of course the answer was “yes”. So he went at lunch time and had about a 1/2 cup of "blueberry jam" squished out of his leg. Only after he got the stitches to close the hole was he told that due to the stitches he wouldn’t be able to race in Tarapoto this week end . . . .he was pretty bummed to hear that but God has a plan. C will still be traveling to Tarapoto with guys from MxC and sharing the Gospel up there, he just won’t be bringing his bike and racing.
Our fellow SAMer, Marshall, left and gone back to the States to get married. We are so happy for him and Rebecca, but we miss him around here. A friend from Arequipa, Simon, has been helping out around the center over the last week and a half. We attended our first Peruvian wedding on Friday night. I went to town to find a pair of heels to wear to the wedding and found that my feet are much bigger than the average foot here and that I really don’t know how to walk in spike heels with out killing myself, so I was very un-latina and went to a wedding in flats but I am a gringo. I can pull that off. The groom and bride were over an hour late to the wedding . . . . asi es la vida aca en Peru. The older three kids had gone to a birthday party at a friend’s house and C left the wedding at 11p.m. to pick them up. Only to find that they had been walked home at 10p.m. and were already asleep in bed when C left. It was quite humorous.
Gavin is becoming an excellent reader. Max adores his third grade teacher (a young German woman named Miss Patricia). Beth is sporting a new bob, loosing teeth, and excelling in math. Emma is growing into a lovely young lady and a great student. Gabriel almost as tall as me, doing great in algebra, and loves to ride his motorcycle. God is very gracious and we seem to be regaining some normalcy in out home. Our support level had been very shakey and we thought we were going ot have to come home soon due to lack of funds, but as it stands now , we have enough to stay through the end of May! I am sure he will continue to provide. Thank you for your love, prayers, and support.
Sorry to keep you hanging
Christian raced and arrived home MOnday morning after driving through the night. He injured himself Saturday during the practice but managed to race anyway on Sunday. He has a very swollen and ugly painful leg but otherwise is fine. More details later (no internet at home and I am btwn classes at school)
